Let's start with the simplest product—flower. This is the green nugget of awesomeness that you can grind up, put into a glass pipe, smoke, and voilà—you're stoned! We call these sticky little nuggets "flower" because they are literally the flowers of the cannabis plant. This is why you'll often hear Seattleites say cannabis instead of marijuana—cannabis is the scientific name for the plant, while the word marijuana has an ugly history of being coopted from Latin American Spanish by the American government as a way of racially stigmatizing and criminalizing pot.
Hash or Hashish is another popular cannabis derived product. Herbal cannabis is often referred to as marijuana while hashish is the cannabis resin. It is typically consumed by using a joint, pipe, blow, bong or vaporizer. Since hash typically won’t burn when rolled in a joint, it’s usually mixed with tobacco or cannabis strains. Hash can come in two forms: resinous or solid. Pressed hashish is usually solid and water-purified hash is paste-like and sometimes referred to as “bubble melt”. Hash, is the product created when marijuana flowers are sieved through a screen, also known as "dry sifting," and processed with heat and pressure. Dry Sifting is a process used to separate the resin glands, called trichomes, from other plant matter. The extracted trichomes, with a powdery appearance, are commonly known as kief. Most take the process a step further and add heat and compression to the kief to form blocks of hashish.
